paida Terms of Service

1. Accepting these terms

These terms of service ("terms") are the agreement between you and Lenscript (光子方程), an independent developer team ("we", "us"), for the paida mobile app ("paida" or "the app") and the website paida.lenscript.cn ("the site"). By installing, opening or buying paida, or by browsing the site, you confirm that you have read and agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use them.

You must be at least 14 to use paida; if you are under 18, get a parent's or guardian's consent before buying anything.

If you downloaded paida from the Apple App Store, Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies; for the App Store version, that agreement prevails where it differs from these terms.

2. What paida is

paida is a reference-driven guidance camera. You import a reference image through the system photo picker; the app extracts the body skeleton, position and facing on your phone and turns it into an outline, a match score and one cue in the viewfinder. The person shooting watches the screen, the person being photographed listens to the speaker. You can press the shutter yourself; with auto-shutter on, the app fires the shutter once when the pose matches and holds (you can switch this off). The result is the plain photo from your phone camera.

The iOS and Android versions of paida are distributed through the App Store and Google Play. Pre-release beta packages are handed out only in the Lenscript community group for personal testing — please do not redistribute them. Features are those actually available in the version you install; we may add features later, and a free feature once provided is never withdrawn.

3. Licence

Provided you comply with these terms, we grant you a non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use paida on mobile devices you own or control, for personal and commercial photography alike.

You must not: reverse-engineer, decompile or tamper with paida or circumvent its purchase and entitlement checks, or make or distribute cracked builds; resell, rent or sublicense it; use it for unlawful purposes, including photographing people without permission; or remove its proprietary notices.

4. Free tier and Pro

Free: keep 3 reference images at a time (replaceable whenever you like), every framing and pose cue, manual and automatic shutter. The paywall appears only when you import a 4th reference image and never blocks taking a photo.

Pro: unlimited reference images, offered as Pro Lifetime (a one-time purchase that does not renew and is never withdrawn) or Pro Monthly (an auto-renewing monthly subscription). Price, currency and tax are as shown on the App Store or Google Play purchase sheet; the reference price in mainland China is CNY 68 for Lifetime and CNY 12 per month for Monthly.

5. Purchases, subscriptions and auto-renewal

paid items in paida are sold only through in-app purchase in the app stores: the App Store (StoreKit) on iOS and Google Play Billing on Android. We never see or store your card or other payment credentials.

• Pro Monthly is an auto-renewing one-month subscription. Payment is charged to your Apple Account or Google Account at confirmation of purchase. The subscription renews automatically unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, and your account is charged for the next period, at the price shown in the store, within 24 hours before the current period ends. There is no free trial or introductory offer.
• Manage or cancel: on iOS in Settings › [your name] › Subscriptions; on Android in Google Play › Payments & subscriptions › Subscriptions. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current period; Pro stays available until then and nothing further is charged.
• Restore: on a new phone or after reinstalling, use "Restore purchase" in the app; the store confirms what you already own and you never pay twice.
• Promotional redeem codes (mainland China promotions only): Pro activated with a code involves no store payment; on a new device, re-enter the same code to restore it. Each code can activate a limited number of devices. Codes are not an alternative way to pay in the App Store or Google Play versions.

6. No refunds

paida does not give refunds. Pro is a digital good, delivered as soon as the store confirms payment, and once delivered it is not refunded; money you have already paid is not returned because you cancel, stop using the app or change your mind.

Pro Monthly can be cancelled at any time: on iOS in Settings › [your name] › Subscriptions, on Android in Google Play › Payments & subscriptions › Subscriptions. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period: Pro stays available until then, nothing further is charged, and what you have already paid for this period is not returned. Pro Lifetime is a one-time purchase and does not depend on any subscription.

Bought in a store: paida is sold only through the App Store and Google Play and never takes payment directly; refunds for those transactions are handled by Apple or Google under their own policies. That process is the store's to decide — we cannot intervene in it and give no refunds outside it. When a store completes a refund, the related Pro entitlement is withdrawn along with the store's record. A mainland-China promotional redeem code involves no store payment and is likewise not refunded once used.

Where the law of your place of residence gives you a right of withdrawal or refund that cannot be waived, nothing in this section limits it; by paying you agree that delivery of the digital content (enabling Pro) begins immediately and acknowledge that the right of withdrawal is lost once delivery has begun. A billing error such as a duplicate charge or a wrong amount is verified and handled by the store that took the payment; if it concerns a redeem code or an entitlement we granted, write to donaldkuke@gmail.com and we will verify and correct it.

7. Reference images and other people's content

A reference image may come from your own library or be a screenshot you saved. Such images are for your personal reference only; the analysis runs on your phone and nothing is uploaded. Respect the original creator's rights and do not redistribute reference images or use them in advertising. Social-platform names and logos belong to their owners; paida is not affiliated with or endorsed by any of them.

You are responsible for what you import into the app; do not import images that are unlawful or infringe other people's rights.

8. Shooting safety and consent

The automatic shutter and the spoken cues are aids, nothing more. Safety on set is your responsibility: do not move onto roads, tracks, water edges, cliffs or other hazardous spots to match an outline, and when the phone is on a stand make sure it is placed securely. If you are the one listening to the cues, look where you are stepping before you move.

Get consent before photographing other people and follow no-photography rules where they apply. paida does not identify anyone and does not judge whether content is lawful; that judgement is yours.

9. Optional usage data

On first launch the app asks whether it may send de-identified usage data (four counters: session start, reference-image use, auto-shutter trigger, purchase result). You can decline, and you can turn it off or reset the random install identifier in Settings at any time; neither costs any feature. The exact fields, retention and your rights are in the privacy policy.

10. Intellectual property

The paida software, interface, icons, copy, website content and the "paida" name and marks are owned by Lenscript (光子方程) or used under licence and are protected by copyright, trademark and other laws. Apart from the licence expressly granted in these terms, nothing transfers any intellectual property to you.

The reference images you import and the photos you take remain yours. We claim no ownership over them and use them only as necessary to provide the service.

11. Disclaimer

paida is provided "as is". To the fullest extent permitted by law we do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that it will meet your particular needs. Pose detection and the match score depend on light, clothing and occlusion and may misjudge; the automatic shutter may fire before you are ready, so switch it off or use the manual shutter when needed.

We work to fix defects and keep the service stable, but as a small independent team we cannot promise a specific service level or turnaround time.

12. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, consequential or special loss, loss of profit or loss of data arising from your use of, or inability to use, paida.

Our total liability to you for all claims, however arising, is limited to the amount you paid us for paida in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim, or, if you have paid nothing, to CNY 100.

Nothing in this section excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited by law, such as liability for wilful misconduct or gross negligence.

13. Termination

You may stop using the service and uninstall the app at any time.

If you seriously or repeatedly breach these terms (for example by circumventing paid features, abusing the service or uploading unlawful content) we may suspend or terminate your access, giving you reasonable notice where practical.

The sections on intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability and governing law survive termination.

14. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms when the product, the law or our commercial arrangements change. The current version is always published at https://paida.lenscript.cn/en/terms/, with the version number and effective date at the top updated accordingly.

For changes that materially affect your rights or obligations (pricing structure, content licence) we give at least 14 days' notice on this page, in the app or by email to the address you gave us. Continuing to use the service after a change takes effect means you accept it. If you do not agree, stop using the service before the effective date.

15. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the People's Republic of China (excluding Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, and excluding conflict-of-law rules).

Disputes arising from these terms should first be raised with us so that we can try to resolve them amicably; failing that, either party may bring the matter before the competent People's Court at the place where the operator of Lenscript (光子方程) is located.

If the law of your place of residence grants you consumer rights that cannot be waived, nothing in these terms reduces those rights.
